Ben Crosby and Patrick Falla, organizers of the second annual Frozen Faceoff Pond Hockey Tournament have announced a limited number of available spots for the Intermediate Division on January 30th.  The Saturday Expert Division on January 29th has sold out but the Sunday Division has a few remaining spots. “The time is getting short but teams can still register for the Intermediate Division. The key now is to organize your team quickly to snag of those last spots for the Sunday event” said co-founder and Ice Master Ben Crosby.

The Frozen Faceoff  Pond Hockey Tournament has grown from a single day 16 team event to a two day 48 team event in one year. Teams and players from MA, VT, CT, RI, NY, NJ, NH and even Indiana have entered the 2011 Frozen Faceoff. This year over 350 players plus hundreds of spectators will converge on Ashfield Lake for two days of pond hockey.  Franklin County Youth Hockey, the Conway, MA Rec Department and the Conway & Ashfield, MA Snowmobile clubs will benefit from raffles and morning concessions. “One of our goals is for the Frozen Faceoff to be a community event and by helping these three organizations we are talking a major step towards that goal”, said Commissioner Pat Falla.

The Frozen Faceoff is a 4 on 4 pond hockey tournament with no goalies, slap shots, lifting of the puck or checking. Instead of nets each team protects or shoots at two six inch slots built into six foot wide pine boxes. Each team is guaranteed three games with the potential of six games if they go to the finals. Teams are made up of six to eight players with a cost of only $35/player. Players must be 21 or older to enter.
