A great family skate

I knew going into this rinkbuilding endeavor that the hard work would be plenty.  And as of right now, the maintenance is beating the skating by a very lopsided score.  But I also knew that there would be moments spent on the rink that would make all the maintenance worth it.  Tonight was one of those moments.  We spent about a half hour on the rink as night fell…just me, Meg, and RJ, gliding around under the halogens.  Nevermind the fact that it took us 40 minutes to get RJ geared up for a half hour skate, or the fact that he decided he’d rather sit in the goal than try to skate.  It was a half hour of spending time with the two most important people in my life, doing something I love, and juxtaposing the two.  For a half hour, I shared hockey with my family, and shared my family with hockey.  I hope this half hour is a foreshadowing for hundreds of hours we’ll spend together over the course of the next…well, tons of years.  And I can’t wait.

I had set aside our entire Sunday for skating, but for the second week in a row, it looks like snow might ruin the fun.  Right now it’s 3-6″ of the white stuff.  Watch – it’ll be a foot.
