I've been wanting to build a backyard rink for a few years. Over the last year my wife and I built a new house and this year I got my chance. It is 40x60'. Frame is 2x12x10s supported by iron sleek brackets. The liner is also from iron sleek. I framed around thanksgiving, filled 12-27 (took roughly 35 hours to fill), and skated the first time on NYE. I have since added netting on both ends to catch pucks. A lot of lessons learned and many still needed. Still struggling to get that glassy smooth ice. I use a rink rake with hot water. And I thought I have a lot of leaves... :-)

I have even more than that.
My neighbor's maple doesn't lose all it's leaves so i thought it would be good for some possible extra shade.
But a mid December wind/rain storm dump half a thousand in my unfrozen rink.

I have an unfinished lot next to me and a few of the maples still have their leaves. They seem to always decide to fall when I flood the rink. I clear what I can and just keep coating them layer by layer.
