Since skating on a friend's rather famous rink ~20 years ago I've had it in my mind that some day I'd build a backyard rink. My only requirement during house hunting was a flat backyard. "Mirrors on the ceiling in the bedroom and leopard pattern shag in the family room? Fine with me if the the backyard is flat." Well, one thing lead to another and of course we found an amazing place to live sans the flat backyard.
Fast forward a few years and after surveying the land a little closer we realized it was pretty flat under all of the trees. So...we took down a dozen or so trees, brought in truckloads of loam and threw down some seed this spring and suddenly the dream was closer to a reality.
Then after a few months of planning and over planning (don't tell my employer I was only part time for a while), another couple of months of board building and board painting I finally have the rink boards up.
I've put up some netting and a couple more logos since these pictures were taken. Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think:
