Super bumpy surface

We had a crazy warm up here in Minnesota over the last week, with temps hitting 50 F, after a very cold and great-for-skating November. We skated 4 days before Thanksgiving and for about a week after...but have been flummoxed for the past week and a half.

Fast forward to last night when we finally get some cold again but of course also get some snow.

My issue now is not the "Heavy-snow-turning-to-slush-but-ice-to-thin-to-walk-on" problem...but rather it looks like someone covered the entire rink with little rocks like you might see put out for traction on a sidewalk instead of salt. The whole thing is "gritty," to the point where it hurts to drag your hand across it.

I can still walk on the ice with little risk of catastrophe - still 7 inches in the deep end and probably 4 in the shallow side. Is my best bet to just resurface the dickens out of it (I have access to hot water) and hope that helps to smooth things out, or are more drastic measures in order?

Easiest way is to start the resurface process and then skate on it. You can always scrape it down a bit with a metal shovel as well but water and skating will mend many a rough rink.
