liner repair

Well I found where the water was going. I had a 2 foot tear straight across right at the water level. It is about inches up on the side. Must have happened when the heavy snow dropped the slab in the deep end. I lost about 5 inches of water cause of this tear. So what I did was take another piece of tarp, smeared it with e6000 and stuffed it on. I used Tyvek tape to hold it in place even better. Not sure this will work but I guess I will know in the morning.

1. How do you protect from having a 6ml tarp get damaged from the slab dropping.
2. Is there a better way to make the repair?

I am hoping I do not have to drain and start over as I already had to fix around 10 liner holes of various sizes.

Hmm. I've never seen heavy snow push a liner down and rip it, but it's possible I guess. Bummer.

I use and love the Nicerink patch tape. Others swear by extra liner held on with E6000. I always say that cold weather cures all...but you need to make it to the cold weather on Mon/Tues first.

My guess it was the ice dropping and not the snow. Maybe I did not have it seated I am not sure. I had to add a little water to test if it is holding. I need cold weather fast to stop the bleeding

Yeah, just not sure I've ever heard that before...pretty much everyone who has more than 8" of water/ice around here sunk and got slush with the 12" of snow we got last weekend...but rarely have I heard that the sinking slab moves enough to rip the liner. *shrug*

I guess it could happen.

And I agree...I got a garbage liner this year with multiple holes in the seams...patched up as best I could, as I only noticed them after my $240 water delivery. But I lost a TON of water. Below-freezing temps are what saved my rink, I bet. I'd like about two more months of them.

There is a possibility one of the kids did it with a shovel also. I guess that is possible. Nothing is easy in this gig but I look at it like a winter hobby. I have a 6ml liner maybe next year 7 ml will be on order.

I think I just have to learn from the rookie mistakes.

ok. so lost an inch over night so either the patch is not holding or I have other leaks. Back to the drawing board. Funny thing is I folded back the liner and their is a lot of water between the water and the boards at the same height as the water level. If I did not have so much ice I would start over.

sorry for all the posts. Well it looks like the leak has leveled off. I am maintaining 10 Inches at my deep end. so this is 3 inches lower than usual. Unfortunately this only leaves me with 2 inches at the shallow end.

1. I could wait for it to freeze( hopefully when this warm weather is gone)
2. Take a piece of plywood and screw it to the walls inside the liner above the water line. I believe this will compress the patch so that the water will not be able to escape.

Well, I still have a leak. can't find this one so not sure what to do. I guess I just have to pray for cold weather. I do know there is a pretty big puddle at the deep end but have no idea where the hole/rip is.
