White ice

I filled my rink with river water and it has a bad yellow tint.
Any ideas to get the "white ice" look?
I think the yellow tint will attract the sun much more.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. As you skate, you will eat away at this ice and just resurface with your normal water supply. Eventually you will get your white ice and you will forget that you ever had 'yellow' ice. Besides, the yellow isn't nearly as bad as painting red or blue lines on your ice which really don't get affected by the sun until later in February.

If you are really concerned, you can always mix white paint with your next flood. This might take longer to freeze and I'm not sure how Mother Nature or your lawn will appreciate you in the spring.

Agree as usual with Kevin. After your first good skating party or snowstorm and subsequent shovel, you'll have the opaque white ice like everyone else. Also, unless you filled with the sludge from the river bottom, I wouldn't worry about the sun attraction. Heck, look at the gross color of your local pond or lake from above...and that freezes, right?

I hear the paint trick a lot on these (and other) boards...and I can't even imagine the mess that would make at drain time. Either you'd be draining paint into your yard or a sewer, neither of which can be a good thing. I've heard milk too...but honestly, just skate a lot and it'll be white for the balance of the year.
