Screw length using 7/16osb

I'm a first timer and about to build tomorrow using the 7/16 osb ripped 2'x8' lengths. What screws and length do you recommend for joining the boards using the mending plates and L brackets? With the 7/16osb it seems like even the 1/2" screws will stick out the other side of the board. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

How thick are the plates? I'd imagine they're at least 1/16" thick, so you should be fine.

You could always (a) not screw them in all the way or (b) screw them in at a slight angle.

What type of stakes are you using? Last year (my first), I had 2' wood stakes with 18" high OSB and I drilled through the mending plates into the stakes. The stakes were almost 2" thick, so a 2" screw worked for me.

This year, I got lazy and decided against mending plates in favor of just overlapping the OSB a few inches at the junctions, and putting a stake on either side. Still drilling directly into the stake from the inside of the OSB, but now I don't have to line it up just right. We'll see how that works out, as I haven't filled yet :)

Just reporting back: Overlapping OSB without using mending plates worked fine for me last season. A lot less work.
