I am planning to expand the hockey rink from 20'X40' to 30'X60' this year. Last year I used 12" tall 7/16 OSB to frame the rink and the 1X2X18" stakes. It worked really well. I had no issues.

I was going to try to re-use the 7/16 OSB boards and upgrade the rest of the perimeter of the rink with 2X12 boards. Is this a good idea or should I just bite the bullet and upgrade to all 2X12 boards? Anyone see a problems that may arise due to the different boards?

I was trying to get through another year on the cheap due to the fact that I am upgrading the overall size of the rink and I have to buy a new liner.

You should be able to use both styles....just use some mending plates at the junctions. Also, 2x12 is actually less than 12" tall, so take that into account. But I've used both, and 2x12 is much sturdier than the cheap OSB, and won't warp/rot nearly as fast.
