Frozen Hose

Good Morning!

I am filling my 24'X40' ice rink over the next few days. My wife has some concerns over the hose running all day and night that I would like to put to rest. I need your help to convince her that the hose will not freeze and our pipes will not burst.

1) it is currently 25 degree F, and is going to get as low as 8 degrees F over the next few days. Will the hose freeze if I leave it running for 6 -8 hrs?

2) It is going to take 4100 + gallons of water to fill the rink. How much can we expect the water bill to go up?

3) Do you recommend leaving the water running unattended while the rink fills?

Thank you in advance. Excited to get things finally going. Oh, nice little promo for NiceRink. I am very pleased with the liner and the customer service provided by them. Great group of people over there!!

The hose will not freeze as long as there is water running through it. I have left a hose running for 6-10 hours in -15'C and never an issue.

When you say unattended, I hope you don't mean heading to the local rink and taking in a hockey game. I hope you mean: let the hose run, go inside for a beer, watch an episode of Seinfeld and then head back out to check on your hose.

No idea about your water bill. That would depend entirely on what you pay per gallon.

Yes, I mean a few trips to the fridge to rehydrate, a quick hockey game in the house with my son and then check on the rink again. Thank you. This will put her at peace. Pictures to come later.

Maverick,

I filled mine about 3 weeks ago and it was especially cold when it was like 3 degrees and felt like -12 and left mine run for about 10 hours overnight checking on it every hour and mine didn't freeze. I live in Bennington, Nebraska pretty close to you all. Good luck and excited to see pictures.

Yep, the water in your well/your municipal water will be, at lowest, 33 degrees. That won't freeze.

Agree with the others...keep an eye on your rink, especially if it's your first one. Boards bulding, liners pulling off the boards/stretching, etc.

Good luck!
