Atypical Rink Design to Gain Extra Ice Surface

Forum Question:
Currently planning a rink, space is at a premium (city lot). To make a bigger rink, I have to box around a tree that cuts in on my rink corner (6' x 9') creating an odd design with the frame. I know that creates some issues in a hockey game but I gain extra ice surface on a relatively small rink. First question: should I expect tarp difficulties folding over boards that are not an oval or rectangle frame design? Second question: in your opinion, is it worth the trouble to box around the tree to extend the length of the rink another 9'? Specs, materials, & rink purpose listed below).

Rink longest Width: 28'
Rink longest Length: 38'
Slope: 5-6"
Planned Materials
Boards 2x12
Liner: 40 x 40 White Tarp 14x14 weave.
General Use: 3 to 8 kids (ages 5-10) figure skate/hockey. 2 on 2 adult hockey games.

Can you draw a picture? Not sure I understand completely. But yes, 9' is significant on a smaller rink. I've seen pictures of rinks that actually wrap entirely around a tree...so you can imagine the liner issues there. I have one non-standard rink that I built this year on a patio (pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater) and while we haven't laid the liner yet, I don't expect any issues.

Where are you located?

Accidental chainsaw incident on the trunk of the tree? :-D

This is one of my favourites: http://www.hpurchase.com/backyardrinks/smurray03.htm "Treezatoph"

@Kevmac That is one big defender. My tree problem is not that bad, so if they can do it, I am reasonably sure I can. @Joe thanks for the advice. your pic is good example of what I have to deal with but a little less pronounced. My tarp will be long enough to play with so I am going to go ahead with the plan. The only thing that may stop me is this bizarre weather. almost 70 degrees in Chicago today.
