Well, Newbie here building a 24x56 rink with about 8" of slope. so 12" at deep end and 4" at shallow end. I used 1/2 " plywood with a 2x4 perimeter. Filled it during the big rain storm 2 weeks ago. We had some weather to create a pretty good slab but of course that completely melted with the weather we have had over the last week. Next week looks colder so let's hope we can skate soon.

That's a great size for a starter rink. I'm always partial to the rectangular ones over the square ones, but more partial to just having one over not. Too bad about the warm spell getting rid of the slab - hopefully it gets cold again so that you are skating before Christmas!

The good news is we had 2 inches of rain during the fill. The bad news is I have standing water till the next cold spell :)

You could always stock it with fish until the next cold spell. 8>)
