Anyone else here from "The County"?
Just found this site and forum yesterday and looking forward to building my first outdoor rink next season since it is too late now, but I do have a nice big pond in my backyard also, but also have about 1.5 acres of almost perfectly flat grass which I plan to put a 100x40 rink on next year! Details to follow....

Awesome! 100x40 is mighty big by backyard rink standards. When the ice is nice you'll be in heaven, but just be sure you'll have the free time to shovel/snowblow, resurface, and care for it. Don't want to dissuade you, but definitely don't want you to have a bad experience also.
Welcome to the site and good luck!

Welcome to the site. I know there are several other members living near or 'on' Lake Ontario so I'm sure you'll cross paths with some 'neighbours' at some point.
40'x100' would be a nice sized rink. I know that PEC is right in the old 'banana belt' near Kingston so does the pond freeze solid enough to skate on?
Cheers
Kevin

I'm not saying I wouldn't walk 400' feet to a pond but having my own personal rink in my backyard (a mere 20' away) is awesome! Not having to worry about losing water because you have it contained with a liner is another plus. Added to that is the containment of pucks because of the boards and netting - well this makes my neighbours happy!
Lots of folks in the backyard rink community have rigged up their boards in order to allow a home-made zamboni into their rink so I'm sure with some ingenuity you can get your Quad on their no problem. However, you'll still have to get the snow over your boards so the snowblower is the way to go. I actually use a snowthrower (similar to the one in Joe's blog ). Light and handy plus does a great job on my 33'x75' rink with 3-4' boards.
Cheers
