We are using cold water from a spigot so it doesn't melt that much. Maybe a few pressure marks, but nothing that you can notice. We do it right on the rink. You just push it over and it floods 1/6 the rink. In most cases the hose doesn't even fall out of the barrel. The ice is extra slippery as you do get some blow-back behind the barrel. Yax trax are ideal. After you pour it, pick it up or slide it to the next spot. Generally we flood from the middle of the rink out in a clockwise rotation. Basically, you only move it about 10 feet each time. It floods great when we are looking for adding ice. Then use the rink rake to make it pretty if you want. The benefit of not getting cold and being able to go inside for 9 minutes is great. I've done the hose before and your hands and pants get wet every time. Just don't have a guy like me around because Friday night when I left they were still flooding and I turned the water off. 5 guys standing around outside for a change and one says "Isn't this one taking a long time?"
