rain tonight

Well we have an inch of rain coming tonight. Temps around 40F. After that we are supposed to be really7 cold for at least a week. I am hoping this is a free 1 inch flood as I need some depth. Anything else I can expect?

Northern Ct here, experiencing the same thing. My rink was not completely frozen yet...wonder if I'll have any issues with an inch of water on top of my 2 inch floating ice mass! Any thoughts?

for you the water will most likely make it under the slab and push it up a little. Then the deep freeze will make it solid. for me. I created a slush berm to try and keep the water on top as have a leak somewhere that I cannot find. If this fails I might try throwing a second liber over the ice and fill it and see what happens.

As long as the snow is gone from atop your slab, rain before a cold snap is just mother nature doing a little resurfacing. Soupy, with any luck, it'll all freeze before any of the water leaks out (if it gets under the slab) and you'll gain some ground. I'm in a similar boat...at one point I had about 1" in my shallow end. I got lucky with a small snow storm, then a warm snap (melted the snow, turned to slush, then froze), and now I have about 5". I have a monster hole somewhere in my liner too, and just hoping we have a cold enough winter that it doesn't matter.

Well the water went under the slab despite my efforts. I cannot tell yet weather I gained anything or not.
If I do not gain anything I might have to resort to another approach.

Has anyone ever put a liner over existing ice? Did it work?

Remind me...how much ice do you have at your thinnest spots?

The danger of putting a liner over existing ice is (a) the ice rubbing or poking a hole in said liner and (b) a warm spell causing the old ice under your new liner to melt, pulling your new liner down. If you don't have enough slack, that new liner will rip. I've never done it...

Well is hard to tell but just5 a guess is 1-2 inches.

most areas are much thicker. especially the deep end where the leak is. My biggest problem is a lose water inder the slab in the deep end and no water in the shallow end. I assume this means that eventually the ice would just snap as it would not be level anymore.

So if I add more liner I would be no worse off than now? I have extra liner simply because I bought a 40x100 and only used 40x60. so I have a 40x40 or so left. it would not cover the whole rink but should freeze into the ice where it ends allowing me to fill and not lose water that is added.
