Some Help Please. My son is going to kill me soon if I cant get this rink up soon. Why are parts of the ice frozen up top but below the ice surface its still unfrozen water...? Someone told me to drill small holes in these areas to let the air get in and the water to rise...? Any Help please

Unfortunately, that how nature works. Drilling holes isn't going to do anything to freeze the water below the current ice. I've said it before and I'll say it again, patience is one of the greatest assets to have when building backyard rinks. You can't make the water freeze any faster unless you have a refrigeration plant.
As long as the ice is thick enough to support weight, you can still skate on the ice.

Yep. Think about your local ponds and lakes...if ice froze from the bottom to the top, the fish would be pretty pissed (and ice fishing would be EASY). Just wait. The cold is coming. Don't drill anything.
