Re: chisel ice

Just did that today. Some of my kickplates had lifted up so I chiseled the ice out and reset. Was pretty easy. I used a 4" wide chisel, about 1" out with a slight angle towards the board. Give it a good tap. Check to see what came loose. Don't hit it real hard, the ie will crack easier tha...

2nd Year Rink in MI

First skate was Dec. 3, last year was Dec. 7. Didn't make any upgrades this year, just wanted to get another season under my belt. I reused everything from last year, even the tarp. Next year will be bigger with boards on one end hopefully. We even got to skate on the pond this year which hasn't hap...

Upgrading boards for 3rd year

Decided it was time to add some 4' boards on one end. The corners will have a 5' inside radius. I started with a 3/4" plywood top & bottom to create the curve framed in with 2*4's. Was hoping to make the entire curve in one piece since I have a small garden tractor with loader to move thing...

Re: Upgrading boards for 3rd year

Everything's painted now. Let my daughter do a little custom painting so they weren't so plain. She put a hockey mask and a goalie on the two flat panels, but you can't see them behind the one curved section. I decide to add some roofing cement to the bottoms of the panels for added moisture resista...

Re: Upgrading boards for 3rd year

Made and painted the braces. Drilled all the holes to be ready to put up. I wanted to be able to keep everything together, all the misc pieces, so I drilled extra holes to hold my braces, stakes,& spikes. The walls are all ready to go up. Working on the lighting tonight. This year will be two ha...

Re: Upgrading boards for 3rd year

Leaves are down and picke up. Decided to put up the new boards for first time since I knew it would take some extra time aligning them and drilling holes. Went good, especially since I had the tractor to move the sections, even got two light poles mounted. Have to check the lighting once it gets dar...
