Do you know the ice thickness growth formula? Here it is

I found this on a norwegian hiking page, and this formula is in celcius and millimeters, but I'm sure you will easily convert it into inches and fahrenheit. Anyways, here it goes: Frozen, clear (without snow) fresh water ice, the thickness grows 2.4 millimeters (~1/10 inch) per day per degree below ...

A free ice thickness ruler

Well, it's free if you manage to sneak it out of your kitchen without your wife noticing it. I managed it. A slotted spatula: http://www.roesle.de/WebRoot/Store/Shops/Roesle/MediaGallery/Produkte/xcs_3706/xcs_3706_m.jpg I just bent it so it became square, and measured and wrote numbers on the handle...

The ideal puck for a 5 year old kid

Is it the light weight blue or the small one?

Re: The ideal puck for a 5 year old kid

Thanks guys! Makes sense to restrict the blue to shooting practice.

Re: Warm weather blues

I feel your pain as well. I live in Oslo, Norway, and we finally went below 0C last weekend. Now I'm enjoying the cold weather :)

An extra liner for covering your rink of heavy precipitation

I'm totally new into this "backyard rink club", but was wondering if you have covered your rink with a liner on top before heavy snowfall, so you can "easily" pull off the snow when it has stopped snowing. On the top of my head, that seems like a good idea, but there might be som...

Re: An extra liner for covering your rink of heavy precipita

Thanks guys! Really appreciate your comments! Then I'll stick with my shovel. I'm probably gonna die by my shovel by the end of this week. The forecast says A LOT precipitation tomorrow, up to 20 inch!

Wish me luck.. :)

Re: An extra liner for covering your rink of heavy precipita

I'm on my way out now to shovel, but since it's forecasted so much snow tomorrow, is s any use to flood the rink tonight? I won't be able to skate tomorrow before the snow hits, but are there any other subtitle advantages by flooding the rink?
