Re: Hello from Chicago's North Shore!

Thanks Joe! Should be lots of fun...definitely used your ideas http://www.backyard-hockey.com/2011/10/28/how-to-determine-your-yards-slope-or-level-or-grade-for-a-backyard-rink/ on finding the level of the yard. Very Very Helpful. Am looking forward to making the Ice Ruler this weekend--Ingenious! E...

Re: Snow and Slush

Can you get warm water onto the ice? might help smooth things out...with temps that low, I think even if you melt the ice a bit, it will refreeze pretty quick... Am a newbie (using a liner) so not sure, but when I was a kid warm water fixes a lot with regard to bumps in the ice and melting slushy sn...

Re: Kick Boards

Was thinking about making kick plates myself, anyone know the name/tone of the "proper" yellow paint to be used? I know it doesn't have to be perfect, but just thought I would ask...

Re: Rink construction

Hi, Great looking boards. Am the process of building some boards myself and was curious what kind of plywood you used and if you are worried about the Plywood rotting. I am using (non-treated) 1/4 plywood--because it is easiest to bend, and I am doubling up the sheets to add a bit of sturdiness, but...

Re: Hello from Lancaster MA

Hi, Last year was my first year and I used treated 2" x 12" x 12' boards and it worked out great. Puck makes a great sound as they bounce off and it stores really nicely in my garage. I have them stacked on topof each other and it takes up very little room--yes, they are long, but that mak...

Re: Hello from Lancaster MA

I actually had some of those wooden stakes (like 1" square with pointed end) that I bought from HD and then I also cut some 2x4s (so that they had a pointed end) and drove them into the ground as heavier duty stakes. I threw them out after the season because I didn't pre-drill holes and many of...

Re: It's getting cold here in NE. Rink season is coming....

My experience is very very similar....definitely keep hose in basement or somewhere warm....I just coil-up in a big plastic tub with handles...makes it easy to bring up and down the steps...only other thing to add is that I always grab a beer from the basement fridge, throw it in the tub with the ho...

Re: rinks almost ready

This will be my first time with Dasher Boards on the ends...

Is there a consensus on how to do the Liner? I assume inside the boards, but am curious what others do with their Dashers...

thanks,
Mike
