My dilemna = leak under ice

Here's my issue (wish I had a picture, maybe try to post one later): I filled my rink in early Dec when we had a 4-5 day stretch of below freezing temps. My rink runs North/South. My depth ranges from 4" in the NE corner to 12-14" in the SW corner. The rink sits in an open area so the ice ...

Re: Waiting for the freeze in Boston

Great rink! The boardwalk to the firepit and chairs for putting on skates, all very nice. Looks like a great place to hang out and play all day.

Re: My dilemna = leak under ice

So far so good. I've been able to fill in/build back up the ice along the North boards using the slush/mortar strategy. I don't have it quite back up to level with the rest of the rink yet, but a couple more light surface floods on that end and it'll be good. At least I don't have that gap for pucks...

Re: Complex ice problem - need advice

kevmac's suggestion to me in a different post is what saved my rink. I needed to add significant water to build up my surface again after lots of melting and lost water due to a leak under my deep end. Used snow to create about a 3 inch "lip" all around my boards. Got that snow wet, let it...

Re: December 2011 Contest Winners

Joe - Received the "Ben and Lucy..." book on Friday. We read it once before dinner, once after dinner and again that night before the boys went to bed. Probably read it half a dozen more times over the weekend. The 4 year old already has half the book memorized. Great book, a fun read! Tha...

Re: Snow and Slush

To answer the "how hot is 'hot'" question I suppose I'd turn to the workings of a Zamboni. I believe the temperature of the water they lay down is around 140 degrees Farenheit (60 C). By coincidence, this is a fairly typical temperature setting for hot water heaters as well. Hot water resu...

Re: 14" of snow and liner isn't in

Thanks guys. I do have that exact hand tamper from Home Depot and the thought occured to me to use it for packing down any snow that I don't remove. I also have some sheets of OSB ripped in half length wise (spare boards) that I could use for packing the snow. Don't have anyone in my area with a sma...

Re: Question about Well-water use

I'm also on a well. 32 x 56 rink with average 8 inch depth. Last year took me 12 hours constantly running the well to get 'er filled (there was a significant amount of snow in the liner when I started, so I had some help). No issues. I use the same well to fill an above ground pool every summer, tha...

Re: Initial flooding issue

Is tuck tape the same as that red tape that is used to seal vapor barriers in construction projects?
