Re: PVC Rink Frame

Okay... Got boards on this past weekend. Our little experiment in the postage stamp urban yard is beginnnig to look like a rink. For now, the kids are playing soccer in it. It seems very, very sturdy with the 2 x 2 stakes every 3 feet and a few extras where board seams happen in between "regula...

Re: Flooding Temps...?

Thanks for the input.

Here's one more: Any reason why it would be a bad idea to run an extension cord under the rink? The way I'm thinking of configuring my lights, it may make things quite a bit more manageable to run a cord right under the slab...

Question on Ice Thickness Strips

So I am feeling like I am practically spamming this board with inquiries.... but oh well.... onward.... Can someone elaborate on the "aluminum ice thickness strips?" Is this just a thing with notches or markings on it that you attach to the boards to gauge depth? Why not just mark the boar...

Re: Flooding Temps...?

You guys are the best... I'm going to put the final touches on my boards tomorrow, run the lights...and then go for it on the evening of thanksgiving assuming the updated forecast holds.

I'll send photos....!

Double Liner

Is there any advantage to putting down a second layer of liner? I have a 6 mil 20' x 100' clear liner. Small rink is 12' by 37' I'm thinking of cutting it in half and putting down two layers. If anything, I'm thinking that this will make the clear liner closer to "white" obviously not real...

Re: Double Liner

I went with the single layer. "Clear" is really more like an opaque gray...plus we had a dusting of snow today. I'm filling right now....its a little windy, but the temp is heading to 27 tonight, and down to 16 tomorrow night. Here we go...!

More Newbie Questions (Clear Ice & Early Shoveling

So I filled 'er up on Thanksgiving night...Had a little sheen of ice on top of the "shallow" end by morning and covering the full surface by mid-day. We are up to about 1.5" in the "deep" end according to my coat-hanger thickness strip (thanks for that idea). Weather looks t...

Re: Snow and Slush

Yes, I can get warm water to the rink very easily via hose from a laundry room window. My current plan is to wait until the surface slush is good and hard and then try to add a layer with warm water from the hose. Things don't look awful, but they sure look like they could be better... It looks like...
