Re: PVC Rink Frame

if you plan on putting up your rink for several years i wouldn't go with the pvc pipe. it begins to stick together after awhile and gets hard to break down. and cold weather is really hard on that pvc. cracks very easily and sunlight will make it brittle after a few years also. so while theyre cheap...

Re: We had some frost!

depending on your water set up you could possibly by-pass your pressure tank and run the water directly from the well. the pressure wont be as high so it would be harder to fill your rink this way but when resurfacing it'll keep you from messing with someone's shower water, unless of course they tak...

Re: Question about Well-water use

it would be awfully difficult to drain the water source your well pulls from. even with the widespread drought we had this year. sometimes if your well is not very deep you can run the water a little low, but if your well goes 100' plus you should be okay.

Re: Guaranteed that no one has even considered this one

you're talking about a massive amount of milk to turn that much water white colored. i know that you can buy the same white paint that rinks use online, and i think some types of it are eco-friendly.

Re: Kick Boards

Lowes and home depot sell sheets of the material that showers are made of. shower board or something like that. i bought 4x8 sheets for like 20$ a piece and cut them down to about 10". its fairly flexible and maybe 1/8" thick, but does a great job of stopping skates and pucks and sticks. i...

Re: Covering the rink...?

a neighbor gave me an old swimming pool cover that i use along with some ratty tarps. i only leave them on overnight to catch the lake effect snows that we usually get at night. i left them on once during the day and i think the sun beating down on them caused them to stick to my ice a bit.

Re: Dealing with leaks

i would assume that starting over with a new tarp would be the best permanent fix for this season, but one that will also cause alot of work getting rid of your current ice and water. that or get a bunch of leak tape and re-tape all of your seams. all of your options don't sound like much fun.....

Re: Hose Question for the Hosers (Canadians)

i think i might use the same kinda goodyear all rubber hose that joe runs. i've even left mine outside when it was single digits overnight and it was still pretty easy to handle the next day even though it was full of ice.

Re: 14" of snow and liner isn't in

i don't like to reuse liners (joe is full of good advice on this) but i do keep an extra one around, and i keep it in the coat closet inside. i also put a few moth balls in the box to keep mice away, would probably work if you store your liner in a garage or lawnshed to use some moth balls around it...
