Re: Hello from Upstate NY

Bummer on the blow out..... at least it was early in the season and repairable.

We finally have the cold back and we're on our second night of resurfacing. We have quite a few humps to smooth out and a heave that developed last night.

Re: Heave near center of rink

Looks like we need to resurface many times to add about 2" of ice surface.....

I've read elsewhere that cold water is better than hot water for building ice depths. Is there any truth to that?

Re: First time rink builder

Looks good. How's it look now? I bet you have some ice if your temps are like they are here in the southern Adirondacks.

From what I've read, your best option is NiceRink repair tape.

Re: First Timer in Plymouth, Ma.

I used 1/4" OSB board for my "kick-plates". I had the guy at Lowes rip them into 12" strips (they do it for free). I painted them white and installed them with 3/4" screws to the inside of the rink.

Re: The Sudeenew Slab

Congrats on the first skate!! I hear you on the rink feeling small.... my 44 x 40 requires just about constant turning. It's still awesome to be out there with my boys. We're still flooding and flooding to recover from the week of warm weather and the foot of snow/slush. Did I mention that we're flo...

Re: Heave near center of rink

Several resurfaces yesterday / last night and we added an inch of ice. I just finished the 2nd resurface so far today. We're slowly getting back to flat as we fill the spaces between the bumps and humps.

We should be in good shape for the family visit on Sunday.

Re: Slushy New Years Day

Bummer!

I'm also a newbie but my advise at this point is to do exactly as you described and be patient. Once solid resurface several times to get to a nice flat surface.
