Re: Preferred base layer?

Last year I played at the Pond Hockey Nationals in Eagle River. Woke up Friday morning at 6:30 for our first game at 9 and the temperature was a balmy -21f. Game time had warmed up to -19f. NBC had a helicopter flying 200 feet overhead taking videos that was making the windchill somewhere south of s...

Hello fellas. Stumbled onto the site the other day while researching a homeboni. Love the info and tips. Had a rink growing up and have great memories. The rink I work to build and play on is at my buddies 5 houses down. We built a homezoni tonight in under 10 minutes at a cost of $11.43. Tried it o...

Re: First skate last night!

Although our winters this far North are harsh, they do have some advantages. The city flooded us 17 days ago and even though we had a warm spell in the upper 30's, the rink held up great. Rink is 51 X 71 and played for a second straight Saturday night with the fellas. 3 on 3 for a couple of hours. M...

Lifelong memories

Growing up we had a rink in our backyard for 3 or 4 years. It wasn't big or fancy, but it did the trick and we could skate at any time. The neighborhood kids were at my house every night to skate. One night one of the kids broke a window. Now this window was 10 feet high and that puck had no busines...

Re: What's your "must have" rink tool?

I have two welded scrapers for after play. They are HEAVY and BIG which is the point. It gets down to the ice and clears the ice fast after a skate. The handle is 18" one inch steel connected to a "T" and tap welded tight. Then it is a 48" shaft connected to a 4 foot by 6 inch bl...

Re: What's your "must have" rink tool?

These are 2 pics with the back view of the blade. The blade fits into the corner of the 1" angle iron and is spot welded across. The shaft is welded to the top piece of the angle iron. Maybe the next elite rink product?

Re: What's your "must have" rink tool?

RinkratJoey, We have a 55 gallon steel drum that is welded top and bottom. Then we cut 3 holes on one side essentially leaving the 2 "rings" only at that spot. Put the barrel where you need it, put the hose inside of it and walk away! It takes 10 minutes to fill the barrel. We go inside an...

Re: What's your "must have" rink tool?

We are using cold water from a spigot so it doesn't melt that much. Maybe a few pressure marks, but nothing that you can notice. We do it right on the rink. You just push it over and it floods 1/6 the rink. In most cases the hose doesn't even fall out of the barrel. The ice is extra slippery as you ...

Tourney Time on the neighborhood rink (AKA Moyer Arena)

So this Saturday is the 2nd annual Moyer Arena adult co-ed hockey tournament. 30 teams, roughly 100 games 4 minutes each. The family that has the rink (Moyers) have a FB check-in so you can let everyone know when you are there for drop in. The national anthem and ceremonial puck drop is at 3 with ch...
