Kirk in MN

Started playing hockey at the age of 5, stopped after a year of collegiate club hockey. Played for a couple years in a men's league about 8 years ago, that was it for organized hockey. Now I'm coaching for my 4 year olds D mite team and my 7 year olds C mite team. I'm hoping the backyard rink (that ...

Preferred base layer?

No, not under your rink, on your skin. When you go out to skate on those really cold days, what's your preferred base layer of clothing. Old school long john's? Under Armour Cold Gear? What works for you? I'm thinking of getting some of the high tech stuff like Under Armour but I'd like to get some ...

Re: Preferred base layer?

Thanks Joe. I've got some heavy duty thermal stuff that I wear sitting in the deer stand, but then I'm not moving. I don't like the idea of wearing that when skating becuase 1) it would be too warm and 2) it won't wick away sweat. I'm playing in the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships in Minneapolis for ...

First skate last night!

Flooded on Sunday, it's been below freezing every day since. Last night I was able to get out and give it a test skate after the kiddies were asleep. Wife said I looked like a kid in a candy store, couldn't get the smile off my face.

Re: First skate last night!

Our good fortune didn't last long. Last couple days have been near 40, with a little mist/drizzle yesterday. Good news is that this seems to have given the slab a chance to "naturally" re-surface itself. Thursday we're supposed to be back below freezing and stay that way for at least a wee...

Re: Pond Hockey Heaven in Central WI

That has a very real possibility of becoming the desktop wallpaper for my work computer.

Amazing.

40 degree skate yesterday

Not as fancy a rink as some of you have, but we're already making a list of improvements for next year.

There was a little water around the edges, but the slab was still solid. Most importantly the kids had a blast.

Re: Lifelong memories

Warning, this is a little long... Until I was 9 years old, there was an outdoor rink across the street from our house. And I mean literally across the street. It was in a park, appropriately named Circle Park. The street around circle park was a single lane, one-way (counter clock-wise) street. We w...

Not really a "must have" rink tool but I "must have" my skates on when I shovel.

Link back to main site

Joe -

Maybe I'm blind and just don't see it, but on the forum page I don't see a link back to the main backyard-hocky.com site. That would be handy.
