Re: Snow and Slush

Thanks for the good perspective. Much appreciated.

When folks say "hot" water, does that really mean HOT...as in you'd not be able to keep your hand under it long w/o it hurting kind of hot, or just "hot" as in not cold?

Re: Rink 2012_2013

These wide angle shots of giant, gorgeous rinks are enough to make me want to buy my neighbor's house and tear it down for more space! She's a beaut kevmac! On the other element of this thread...the cold...I have found that there is NO temperature too cold for skating. Layers, layers, layers, and a ...

Ice Humps

That's right, not bumps or lumps...humps. How do I avoid these buggers?? We had some warm weather the last two days, with highs in the mid 30s, and a bit of rain. This of course softened up the ice a bit. By yesterday it looked like a fairly flat, semi watery surface on the rink. Then it got cold ag...

Re: Question for 8U hockey coaches

Fellow mite coach here, from Minneapolis. Our association has adopted ADM as well. I agree with the sentiments expressed here that there are more positives than negatives. Chief among them is "shrinking" the game...smaller nets, smaller space, lighter blue pucks. EVERY other sport does thi...

Ice Out - what does it look like

So as we draw to the last few weeks of the inaugural season of backyard hockey at my house...I have one more set of newbie questions. What does ice out look like on a backyard rink? Does it thaw from both top and bottom? What's the best way to help the process along once you are sure its not going t...

Re: Squeezed a Couple More Days

We skated on March 2nd. I felt pretty smug about getting a march skate in to wrap up the inaugural season at our house. I was over the moon. Believe it or not we have another cold patch coming in tonight and into early next week. I have been kind of quasi-maintaining things over the past 10 days or ...

Re: Squeezed a Couple More Days

Our last skate was last week on Tuesday evening. 3 Months to the day after the first skate. What a phenomenal first year. Its sad to watch the ice melt, degrade, sublimate, wither, etc...but it has to melt before you can have the fun of doing it all over again next season, right? Once more, I expres...
