Re: Making good ice on a pond?

We just finished "rescuing" our local pond. Some kids only shovelled off part of it the last time they skated, and then we had a bit of a melt, resulting in mounds of frozen trash on varous spots in the middle of the pond making it unskatable!!! Me and a few dads got together over the last...

Re: Making good ice on a pond?

Perfect Joe, I didnt see them. This year has been a challenge, the weather has been on the brink of ice making all winter (hasnt really been winter, we only had snow for a couple of weeks up here) the big saviour for our pond has been the pump! without it, it would have taken at least twice the time...

Pierre from Uxbridge

I found this great place while looking for resources on how to rescue the mess that someone made of our local pond! We're once again skating on a 35-40ish x 70-75ish frozen pond. What started out as a request from my son to have a pond hockey game for his birthday has turned into a hobby (my wife is...

Re: Making good ice on a pond?

Put some of it up for sale on kijiji!! Now I need to find a 2 inch ice auger (similar to the ones they use for ice fishing) the closest thing I can find is a gardening earth auger , looks like I'm going to have to modify it to have better cutting teeth for gettnig through the ice cleanly!

Re: Tim from Woolwich, ME

Welcome! I also help maintain a small pond by my place for the kids to skate or play a game of pick up on! So far my number one tool has been a small portable gas water pump!!! I happen to have a 1" pump that puts out 30-40 gal/minute. It's connected to 100' of 1-1/4" hose. I've Been using...

Starting up a tournament

Does anyone have any good refernce material for getting one of these things started? Its too late for this year, but I want to get something started for next winter that has the participation/blessing of local council? As an aside, do you guys really use those "pond hockey" nets? I've been...

Re: Starting up a tournament

That must be an American thing, never seen nets like those before. All the tourneys I've seen people prepping for always seem to be with regular hockey nets. I'll bet those keep the scores low!! I'll keep an eye out for your blog. I want to start/resurrect something up where i am in Uxbridge. We hav...
