Dale in Buffalo - We Finally Skate!

First year for our rink this year; went 30' x 40' in the backyard. We did some renovations this year on the house, so I had the contractor dump the dirt from the excavation in the back and had him level it. Only about a 3" pitch from the east to west sides. I filled on January 2 when it was 19 ...

Back Again in Buffalo

Had the worst day possible trying to get our boards up this year - warped lumber, stripped screws, etc. made for a very frustrating day. I will finish getting the boards up tomorrow (2x10s) and get the listing situation working. Forcasts for a high of 30 for the next week doesn't make me very optimi...

Snowfall Impact on Construction?

Last year was a very mild winter. My tarp went down (30x40 rink) on grass since we has no snow. We got about 12 inches yesterday, and I still need to get the tarp down. I was thinking that I would go out and compact the snow best I could to avoid high spots. I am not sure if the weight of the water ...

Need advice - We got snow

Hope all is well. Third year with my rink in Buffalo - 30x40. I laid down the liner yesterday after shoveling out about 8 inches of snow within the frame. I didn't start filling yet, and of course we got another 6 inches of snow last night. I would like to start filling soon, so any advice on doing ...

Frozen Slush Chunks - Need Advice

Hello all. I would like some input on what to do - if anything for my rink. Recent timeline: 12/25 - about 2 inches of ice. I went through when testing it. 12/26 - 4 inches of snow in the morning. I went out to roof rake it off at 3pm and it was all slush. Took forever to do. Tons of bumps and chuck...

Re: heattrak to smooth huge ridges?

Hate to say that I agree, but I was there 2 weeks ago. See one of my earlier posts. I scraped it as best as I could and flooded it again. It improved noticeably, but was still choppy. Skated again and flooded again. Still a few high spots, but much, much better.

Re: Using pool water to fill your rink?

And, I do the reverse in the spring - put the rink water in the pool.
