First timer from NY

Hey guys,

After kicking around the idea for a year I've decided I'm going to build a backyard rink think year.
My kids are 5, 4, and 2 so i thought it was a good time to get them started.

Really like the site and plan on reading up on everything in the next few days.

Using pool water to fill your rink?

I'm about ready to put my liner in and fill my rink for the first time.
My pool is about 8 feet from the rink, I was thinking of using some pool water to fill the rink and save on the water bill. Is this a bad idea?
I'm wondering if the chemicals in the pool will prevent me from getting good ice.

Re: Space under boards

I filled mine in with some dirt, I was afraid my liner would split.

First time rink builder

Finally looks like colder weather is coming to NY so I flooded my rink. It turned out ok, my slope was worse than I originally thought. I'll have to use higher boards on the low side next year. The rainbow pool noodles are a little silly but they were cheap and my kids are young so they think it loo...

Re: First time rink builder

I have about an inch and a half of ice right now. I'm hoping the kids can get on it by Saturday.
Of course Sunday is supposed to hit 50 then back down to freezing the next day.
Really crazy weather so far.

Re: First time rink builder

I got to about 3 1/2 inches and it snowed so I went out there and cleared it. Then I ran the rink rake.
It worked really well.

Only problem I have is some large air bubbles that are causing cracks.
Should I leave them alone or drill a hole into them and fill with water?
