A hello from Norway

Hi, I've just finished my backyard rink, and discovered this awesome site afterwards. Unfortunately, it wasn't the other way around, so now I've already attached the liner to the boards, and it gets filled up with rain. We haven't got sub zero degrees (Celsius) in Oslo yet, and the long term forecas...

Dark green liner, have I screwed it up?

This is my very first backyard rink attempt, and I build it before I found this wonderful forum. Therefore I didn't put much thought in what color the liner should have, so I took the only one which was large enough at my local hardware store, which was green.. So.. should I flood the rink and get a...

Re: Dark green liner, have I screwed it up?

Ok, thanks! I'll see if I get hold of a large white liner at reasonable price. If I don't, I'll just live with the fact that my skate season will be shortened. Fortunately (depending on how you look at it), we don't see so much of the sun during the winter time up here north. :)

Re: What temprature extremes are OK for skating?

I'm from Norway, and even though it's 40F here at the moment, we're used to pretty cold temperatures. As long as you dress your kids properly, and cover their skin (in the face as well) there's no problem playing outside in -4F for an hour or so for a 3 year old, as long as the weather is dry and th...

Is everyone using hot water when resurfacing?

I understand that the hot water loosens the crystal structure of the old ice, so a new solid surface is created when it freezes, but is it very important? I'm totally new into this backyard rink, and I'm still waiting for my "swimming pool" to freeze. I mean, is it "pointless" to...

Training puck vs match puck

I have a bunch of reebok pucks, and some have imprinted on the side "official match puck", while the rest have "training puck" imprinted. I really can't feel any difference at all, and I even believe they costed the same. Anyone knows the difference between them?

Re: Training puck vs match puck

Nevermind, google is my friend. :) The black rubber of the puck is made up of a mix of natural rubber, antioxidants, bonding materials and other chemicals to achieve a balance of hardness and resilience.[9] This mixture is then turned in a machine with metal rollers, where workers add extra natural ...

Any tips to build a mesh net?

I'm considering building some sort of net that will extend my boards on one of my short sides in order to do some slap shot practice. How would you guys approach this? I believe it must be at least 7 feet tall, maybe more, due to my terrible slap shot skills. Where can I find a net that will disallo...

Re: Any tips to build a mesh net?

Ok, thanks for your reply, Joe.
I'll have a look at my local hardware/fishing store to see if they got any. If not, any chance you ship items overseas?
