Hello from Plattsmouth, NE

Hey my name is Mike and I am a first time rink builder from Plattsmouth, Ne. My son loves UNO Maverick hockey and we are excited to spend some time on the ice! Thank you so much for all advice and how to guide. We could not have done it without you.

Re: Hello from Omaha, Nebraska

Hey! Nebraska is well represented! I am down south of you guys about 40 minutes. The closest ice rink for me is 35 minutes to Ralston. I built a 24'X40' rink because it is costly and a long drive to participate in hockey. I was not sure if it would get cold enough here for it so I am hoping for a lo...

Frozen Hose

Good Morning! I am filling my 24'X40' ice rink over the next few days. My wife has some concerns over the hose running all day and night that I would like to put to rest. I need your help to convince her that the hose will not freeze and our pipes will not burst. 1) it is currently 25 degree F, and ...

Re: Frozen Hose

Yes, I mean a few trips to the fridge to rehydrate, a quick hockey game in the house with my son and then check on the rink again. Thank you. This will put her at peace. Pictures to come later.

Leaves and Wind!!!

Hey everyone. I am in Nebraska. The weather is wreaking havoc on my rink. I made sure to rake all my leaves but some of my neighbors have neglected to do the same yearly maintenance on their yards. The problem I am having is that we have had high winds the last week or so and warmer weather (34F to ...

Re: What temprature extremes are OK for skating?

Hey I live NE as well and the day they cancelled school (-31 below) we skated. We were both bundled up and my house blocks the SE wind pretty well. We skated for an hour and half before he even asked to come in. No frostbite to speak of. Mostly runny noses, and red cheeks.

Re: Leaves and Wind!!!

hmmmm.......not a bad idea. Perhaps if I could find some longer scrap boards 1x1's to hash together the width of the rink. Mine is only 24' this year. It was 63 degrees today so I took the house and washed the ice like I would when I clean my driveway. Started at one end and sprayed the leaves out o...

Re: What temprature extremes are OK for skating?

HA! I agree! My friends look at me like a freak when I get grumpy that the weather is so nice and cheer for the 20's that are coming next week! Hang in there! we have 6 more weeks of good winter ahead! Remember the snow in May last year! There is hope my friend.

Expansion!

I am planning to expand the hockey rink from 20'X40' to 30'X60' this year. Last year I used 12" tall 7/16 OSB to frame the rink and the 1X2X18" stakes. It worked really well. I had no issues. I was going to try to re-use the 7/16 OSB boards and upgrade the rest of the perimeter of the rink...

Re: Good/Reputable places to buy new liner

http://www.bluelakeplastics.com/

this is a fair priced place to buy a good liner as well. Had a good experience with nice rinks liners and this year went with this guy. Both are great choices
