Yet another sloped yard...

Been reading these forums since fall of last year when I started my first rink. It was (and will be again) 24 by 36 feet, and it was decent sized enough for my 7 year old and I to work on some skating and hockey stuff. The yard is very sloped, more-so than I had thought. I ended up with 15 inches in...

Re: Yet another sloped yard...

Thanks.... I'm in Prince Edward Island, Canada. I do in fact have a friend who has access to some equipment to shoot the yard and check the slopes that way.. Hoping to have him over saturday.

Front Yard rink

My rink is in my front yard, because that's the only spot that's level enough to put it. I had it there last season, with no issue, but this year I'm adding boards to one end. It'll be 38inches high at that end, closest to the sidewalk. I'm a bit worried that my town may give me some grief over it b...

Re: Front Yard rink

That's kind of where I'm at with it. I'll put it up, and if someone want's to kick up a fuss, I'll kick up my own fuss, about kids not getting outside enough, and watching to much TV, etc... That said, I'd rather not have an issue, I'm not much for headaches and confrontations. Next year I plan on b...

Re: To Fill or not to Fill

I'm in the same boat here. Was hoping to lay the liner in tomorrow or the day after and fill, but the forecast is saying we're getting a decent sized snowfall Sunday. I guess I'll wait, shovel out the rink on sunday night, and lay down the liner and fill late sunday night or monday evening.

Re: cracking

I'd say let mother nature take care of it... give it some time and it should freeze up enough for you to get out there and fix the cracks, should you choose to. Some guys say just leave them and others, such as myself, stuff a bit of slush down into them to fill em up. Either way, I don't think you ...

Re: Well here is my first attempt

How deep is that on the deeper end? Looks like a decent chunk of ice down there. Nice work ! Enjoy the winter.

Re: Well here is my first attempt

Nice... mine isn't doesn't have water in it yet, but it'll be about 14 to 16 in the deep end. Last season I had a leak and only ended up with about 12 in the deep end and never actually got enough ice to use the whole rink. Ended up putting a board across and basically made my rink a bit smaller tha...

Re: Need advice - We got snow

I think most will agree that shoveling the snow out of the liner is pretty risky. You don't want to tear it and end up with leaks. I'd find a way to compact that snow, be it a lawn roller, snow shoes, a sheet of plywood you can lay down and walk all over, anything really, to pack the snow down as ha...
