Re: rink dimensions and layout

Hey Dan, I'm no expert and in fact in the same boat as you, I'm building my first rink this year. What I'm reading is that you should flood a little at a time. Wait for the temp to be a steady -10 Celsius for several days in a row and that's the time to start. Most of the tutorials I've read says to...

Re: rink dimensions and layout

Wow, thanks Joe!

Like I said, I'm still learning so I'll take that advice and give it a shot when I do my first fill.

Re: Well water or softened water for resurfacing?

I'm hoping someone responds, I'm interested in the answer as well. This year is my first rink too.

Curious though, what made you decide to bring in a service for the initial water? I'm on a well too and I figured I would fill my 30x50 rink with my own water.

Re: Pond Hockey Documentary

I just finished watching it tonight and I can't agree more. Tells a great story and really got me excited for this upcoming hockey/rink season!

Re: Hello from Blackhawks Country

That is an awesome looking rink!! I'm barely ready to flood my first ever rink and it's already a full on addiction. Bring on the cold!!

Re: Time to fill?

Hey guys - I'm also looking to start my fill right away. This weekend has some snow in the forecast but it looks like I could start on Monday. Here's my question - Like Kevmac, I'm also filling off a well so I'll go gradual. If I start to fill at 6PM Monday evening, am I likely to get an inch filled...

Re: Time to fill?

I'm going to answer my own question and let you guys poke holes in it. :) The big assumption here is that the water flow is an average of 2.5GPM. I really don't know that number and I'll have to test it when I get going but it's a start. My rink is 30 x 48 feet. It's relatively level for slope with ...

How much is too much snow?

Hey guys - It sounds like we have a fair amount of snow coming next week so I'm trying to get the rink filled this week. I think I have the right temps but I'm worried about the small amounts of snow that are coming Wednesday and Friday (~1-2"). If you were looking at this forecast, would you f...

Re: How much is too much snow?

I should have noted that my rink is 30 x 48 and it's quite level (I did the survey) with 5" in one corner to get 4" throughout the rest.

Re: Water depth

I have a spot in the middle of my rink that seems to be about 2"-3" higher ground than the rest of the rink. It's an area where we have a small sandbox and though I know it was slightly higher, I didn't think it was that high. Of course, put water in there and you find out quick. It's not ...
