North Shore of Massachusetts, Checking in

Hi gang, like so many on the forum, I have been lurking for some time but have not pulled the trigger on joining since I had not yet committed to a build. However, that time has come! My neighbor has done a pretty straightforward rink for the last few years, and one things is very clear - how do you...

Re: Backyard NooB

Nice rink!

Question for you - are those yellow board guard pool noodles cut lengthwise or something else? I like the looks of those!

FYI - I just joined today so go easy on me gang if the answer is obvious!

Re: North Shore of Massachusetts, Checking in

Thanks for the warm welcome Joe! Having pitched in on other rinks and can certainly agree that the potential for frustrating is high! But worth it.

I will certainly be calling on you for a liner.

Best,

Ian

newbie, planning for Almanac greatness!

hi gang - my first post and will be my first year setting up the backyard rink. By way of background, I am north of Boston near the coast, which has a weather impact, but my neighbor got a good 25 days in last winter (bascially Jan/Feb), which I think is pretty good in these parts. I am starting out...

Re: newbie, planning for Almanac greatness!

Thanks to you both for the replies. Joe - I used a line level on twine running tightly from a spike at my shallow end, set at 4", to my deep end, and it was either 9 or 10", don't recall. My neighbor had almost 18" in his deep end last year and it worked out fine, so I am hoping mine ...

Re: newbie, planning for Almanac greatness!

Phew! Was worried that I had taken the wrong approach..... I still expect some hiccups, and my yard, while not bad from a slope perspective is still pretty lumpy, so I imagine planty of gaps between boards - but per your reccomendations to others on the forum, will focus on keeping boards flush to t...

Pond Hockey Documentary

I thought I would pass this along, just a wonderful documentary I watched this week. It covers the history of pond hockey (as well as backyard rinks and outdoor park rinks), the impact playing hours of unstructured hockey on rough pond ice had on some of the best NHL players, the state of youth hock...

Re: Pond Hockey Documentary

joe - very cool. Not surprised it wasn't much fun to be in the limelight with the mics and cameras, but must have been an interesting experience, and anything that sheds a positive light (is there any other kind?) on the sport is a good thing!
