Initial flooding issue

I started flooding last night. I am trying to overcome an 8" drop over a 30' run so I filled about 6" worth of water in the deepest end. We got -12 temps overnight. This morning, I have about 1/2" of ice and then a lot of water underneath. In a few areas along the sides, I also have a...

Re: Initial flooding issue

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I still have a leak. A lot of wet ground under the liner (darker). I taped one up and now there's no water pooling nearby. Temps are -10c so I have my fingers crossed. About 5" to go to get a 4" base at the shallow end.

Question about Well-water use

I have a 20'*30' rink. Deepest end will be 12", shallowest will be 4". I figure on between 400 and 500 cu-feet of water. Should I be concerned about my well (I'm a former city-boy). I was told that my well was 120' deep and that I had 80' of water for what that's worth. Ever hear of anyone...

Re: Question about Well-water use

Well so far so good. I have it filled most of the way. I've stopped about 1" shy of my target on account of my tiredness and the fact that I want it to start to freeze solid without water currents.

Well seems to have held up.

Re: Initial flooding issue

So I managed to patch one leak earlier and then I patched four other small ones that I spotted later on. That tuck tape works miracles! One lesson learned is that I should've stapled the sheet ABOVE my intended water level. I have a number of below-ice drip sounds that I can hear coming around some ...

Re: Initial flooding issue

Hi Joe, I'm in Ottawa, Ontario. My rink is 20' x 30' so I made the liner out of 6-mil Polytarp Vapour Barrier. I ran four 8' segments in parallel with a bit of overlap (Tuck Tape both sides of the overlapping seams). The one advantage to my method is that with the 3 red seams, I unintentionally crea...

Hi Kevmac, I'm just over in Greely so not far from you at all. That does sound good! What do you drink?

Dealing with leaks

So as I've posted before, I've got leaks in my liner. I found and patched a few but apparently it's enough that I've lost a significant quantity of water. While I filled up to within 1" of my fill line, I'm now down almost 5" :( My strategies are as follows. I would appreciate people's tho...

Re: Dealing with leaks

I agree that starting over is the "best" option but it's not really one that I want to entertain.

What are the thoughts about covering what I already have (which is now nearly frozen solid) with a new tarp and carrying on?

What about filling in increments and build up in layers?

Re: Dealing with leaks

So I'm going with Option 2. Since it's going to be crazy cold tomorrow, I'm doing a good flooding (but not full flooding). I'm going to play the "I hope the ice freezes faster than the leak" game.
